Case Study: Restoring Critical Commercial HVAC Systems at Sea Life NJ
When Sea Life NJ faced a catastrophic commercial HVAC failure just ahead of the busy summer season, they turned to Air Stream for a fast, reliable solution.
Sea Life NJ’s Challenge
Sea Life NJ’s HVAC system suffered severe water damage when the plate/frame heat exchanger ruptured, contaminating the entire refrigeration system. With summer crowds just around the corner, restoring the unit’s functionality was critical to maintaining the optimal environment for guests and marine life.
Air Stream’s Solution
Air Stream’s team quickly assessed the damage and developed a comprehensive refurbishment plan. Our scope of work included:
- Installing (4) new compressors
- Replacing (4) TXVs (Thermal Expansion Valves)
- Installing (4) liquid line driers to protect system integrity
- Replacing (2) evaporator coils for efficient cooling
- Installing a new plate frame heat exchanger
- Rebuilding full refrigeration and water piping, complete with heat trace and insulation
After installation, we performed a meticulous pressure test, followed by a triple evacuation process to fully dehydrate the system before introducing new refrigerant. This ensured the unit was leak-free and ready for optimal performance.
The Result
By acting quickly and executing a precise refurbishment, we delivered a fully operational system—just in time for Sea Life NJ’s peak summer season. Our expertise in large-scale commercial HVAC solutions helped prevent prolonged downtime, ensuring a comfortable and controlled environment for both visitors and aquatic exhibits.
